Found India on a map and looked at neighbouring countries, cities, oceans and rivers.
Made a List of everything we know about India today and past.
Looked into how long India dates back to (pre Egyptian!).
Looked at Timelines of Wolrd History to see what was going on at the same time and compared.
Discussed B.C. and compared context.
Talked about the Indus Valley.
Looked at books and magazines on the Indus valley. Discussed 'technology' (plumbing, fresh water to houses, waste water taken away/sewers, grid like streets, well designed cities).
Discussed what we know for sure and what we don;t and why...scripts undeciphered.

Discuss trade and travel. What artifacts tell us.
Talked about how organized these ancient cities and villages were (2000 villages and at least 2 major cities with a poplulation of more than 200 000 each means a pretty organized governemnt or leadership to some degree).
Talk about language, archeologists, and epigraphers and how epigraphers decode language.
Activity
Look at the Ancient Indus Valley Scripts and use the ways an epigrapher does to sort and make sense of the script.
