Norse Mythology
Talked about the 9 Worlds of Norse Mythology, the main Gods, the religion Asatru, read from the Havamal (and tried to decipher and discuss)

From here we discussed the justice systems used by the Vikings, with tribunals and councils, meetings and rules. they would hold a 'thing' and once a year travel to the 'all thing'.

Assignment due Feb. 28th
1. Choose either a, b, c or d.
(a) Write a healing in runes for an ailment.
OR
(b) After divining your runes, write a saga about your coming future path you are on Remember sagas are very dramatized...so have lots of fun with this. (a great link to the meanings of the runes: http://www.sunnyway.com/runes/meanings)
OR
(c) Write your own story about the Viking Gods. Maybe an interaction between a few of them, or an interaction a mortal experienced with them. (a great link to terminology and who's who: http://www.sunnyway.com/runes/gods.html)

(d) Draw a Norse God Family Tree or Map of the Nine Worlds (a good link: http://www.viking-mythology.com/theNineWorlds.html)
2. Choose your Viking God/Goddess or mythological character that speaks to you the most that you will want to have as your deity through your Viking travels. Learn a little bit about your deity to share with rest of class. You may want to draw a picture, sculpt a figure, or even just print an image off to share. 3. Decide on a Viking novel you'd like to read(and start reading) and your end of session presentation.
4. Start planning for your class presentation/sharing if you haven't already had your turn. (Ayden, Ben and Liam are next week!)
