Viking Mythology - reading from Viking Myths of Gods and Monsters (read chap. 1)

Discussed how Vikings first became known in their attack of Lindisfarne (monastery) in 793. After killing hundreds of monks and stealing from this holy land, they became known as savages, barbarians, heathens, the antiChrist.
Discussed how this shaped how they were viewed throughout history.
Leif and Taro shared a briefing of their Norse heritage.

Viking Brainstorm (Class Layout and Framework)- We decided what the layout of the class would be, what topics everyone was most interested and how they would be broken down. We also assigned presenters (teams of 2) for each class to share on that days topic for 10-15 minutes.
Feb. 14th Voyages, Geography, Routes, Mapping and Ships (Leif and Taro)
Feb. 21st Runes, Beliefs, Gods and Language (Zander and Dylan)
Feb. 28th Warriors, Weapons and Tactics (Ayden and Ben)
Mar. 7th Agriculture, Food, Way of Life, Settlements (Liam and Zander)
Discussed how Old Norse has infiltrated the English language. Many of our words we use we can thank the Vikings for.

Water brought to a boil with Cut apple pieces (with peel)
Once boiling, add honey.
Stir and serve hot.
Assignment (due Feb. 14th)
1. Get creative and choose your Viking Name. This will be the name you become known as in class.
2. Research to discover at least 5 words that we use in English that we can thank the Norse for.
3. Start planning for your class presentation/sharing.
