Watched Lost Worlds 34:00-43:00 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_vVUK-gick
Finished this documentary. This section of the documentary featured the colonization of the Vikings, their long houses, the change to Christianity, and more.
Sunna the Blue, Thora the Awesome and Swanhild the Beautiful shared their learnings on Viking food, farming and lifestyle.
Sunna shared information on farming techniques and animals farmed.
Swanhild shared LOTS about food the Vikings ate, breaking it down to Meats, Fruits, Vegetables, Grains and Drinks; I learned about the Viking using Birch bark for flours, that they used natural yeasts for risen breads, that they pickled some of their meats and that even children drank ale (as it was safer than water)!
Thora shared about Feasts. The Vikings used a knife as both knife and fork, they used wooden bowls, intricately carved cups, would have regular feasts and would generally eat outdoors and occasionally in the longhouse. ANd if they were still hungry at the feast and the food ran out, no worries as they would just slaughter an animal on site and cook it up to enjoy!
Learning Through History Viking pg. 14-16. Viking Warrior ceremonies at the end of winter. Divination, Animal Sacrifice, Honouring Odin, Bezerkr's.
Play WHo Wants to be a Viking? Only one wrong answer! Way to go Vikings!: http://www.cbc.ca/history/histicons/games/viking.swf
